Sennheiser HD 202 II (Over-the-Ear)- Review

For a magical movie like ‘La La Land’ you need something magical to feel it, to embrace it and luckily I got my hands on the new Sennheiser HD 202 II over the ear headphones.

The quality of these earphones are exceptional considering its price tag of just 2000 INR (31.25 USD and 23 GBP). It comes in a superior Sennheiser packaging just like their other products. It looks premium with a touch of piano finish and Sennheiser branding on both the sides of the headphones. And also finding the correct side is not a puzzle and mystery as it has clearly marked ‘R’ and ‘L’ that could easily be spotted (Kudos on cracking the code Sennheiser!).

Now, for small ears, these headphones justify its name, but for large Yoda ears (like mine), it sits on-the-ear rather than over. The ear padding is comfy (not the best quality though!), the design is sleek and it weighs 454 Grams. For a person like me who wear spectacles, wearing headphones for a long time gets irritating and annoying as it presses against your ears and the hard temples of your spex and Sennheiser HD 202 II isn’t an exception (Sadly)!

Now coming to the sound quality, as advertised on the packaging of the headphones, it offers just the right amount of bass but the treble is a bit too high (not hate-it high but we-can-live-with-it high). It is ideal for watching movies and surfing Youtube as the clarity is really good, like you could feel James Earl Jones roaring right into your ear canals. Noise isolation also met my expectation.

Be it ‘Pink Floyd’ or ‘Marshmello’ or ‘Chainsmokers’, Sennheiser HD 202 II will not let you down. I mean do not compare it with Bose Quietcomfort series or Audio Technica ATH-M50X but weigh it down with Sony MDR  XB450 and its likes. It is a value for money purchase.

Here’s the specifications for these headphones (refer to my another post on How to buy a decent set of headphones to see how good/bad these specs are!):

  • Closed, supra-aural, dynamic hi-fi stereo headphones.
  • Frequency Response 18Hz-18KHz.
  • Specially designed damping perforation ensures powerful bass response.
  • Lightweight diaphragm material with “turbine” embossing for extremely low bass.
  • Powerful neodymium magnets and lightweight diaphragms for high sound levels.
  • 3m highly conductive OFC copper cable.
  • 32 Ohm Impedance
  • No Microphone

Yes, you read it right it has a cable length of 3 meters (that’s almost the length of Maruti Alto). But with great length comes great cable cluttering, luckily the cable is attached to a cable winder that helps you manage your wire length as needed.

Cable Winder

All in all, I am really impressed with these headphones. They are ideal for PC use but it will not hurt using it on your mobile devices. If you are looking for a budget pair of headphones with decent sound quality, Sennheiser HD 202 II should be your final destination!

Till next time!!!
